Brain makes decisions before consciousness steps in – leading neuroscientist https://www.rt.com/shows/sophieco/372802-mind-theory-brain-work/

Why has natural selection bothered to give us consciousness if decisions are already taken before they become conscious?
Maybe consciousness is so fundamental to a correct description of our physical world that it has the same role as an axiom in mathematics and exists without any other reason than itself.

"Good explanation. It's usually only after so much conscious preparation of a solution that our uncoscious mind suddenly comes up with a solution we would not have thought of. Somehow an interplay between the two is needed."

Maybe consciosness has its role to play not when it comes to very quick decisions but to longterm policy decisions - that is programming of the brain so it in the future can take care of quick descisions in an unconscios way. The consciousness that comes afterward a quick descision has an informative role to the soul in order to prepare it prior to its next subsequent programming of the brain some time in the future.
